Instruction on how to recognize and identify gang members and gang insignia; broad overview of national gangs with an emphasis on gangs known to operate in North Carolina. DEMO DAY

The live fire demonstration will feature a 2015 Chevy PPV Tahoe upfitted with Level IIIA ballistic windshield and door glass, showcasing real-world vehicle protection capabilities under fire. Attendees will observe multiple weapon systems—including 9mm, .45 ACP, 12 gauge 00 buck tactical loads, and .556 rifle rounds—engaged against the windshield to demonstrate ballistic resistance. The side glass will then be tested using 9mm and .45 ACP in a simulated ambush-style attack, replicating close-range threat conditions officers may encounter in the field. The demonstration will conclude with a critical look at return-fire capabilities, highlighting how officers can effectively engage threats from within the vehicle by firing through the same ballistic glass designed to provide protection, reinforcing both the strengths and practical limitations of armored vehicle systems in law enforcement operations.

The North Carolina Gang Investigators Association reserves the right to refuse membership and attendance to any person, group, entity, organization, etc.

The presentations will focus on fostering collaboration and cooperation within the criminal justice system. They will emphasize operational teamwork, shared decision-making, and effective communication among stakeholders to improve overall efficiency and outcomes.

Hosted by the North Carolina Gang Investigators Association (NCGIA) in Partnership with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI), the NCSBI's Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAAC), the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) and the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS).

We are inviting law enforcement executives, command staff, and subject matter experts to participate in a strategic roundtable focused on organized criminal enterprises, violent crime trends, and statewide collaboration.

The meeting will take place September 1, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m. following the opening ceremony of the NCGIA Gangs and Violent Crime Symposium at the Benton Convention Center, 301 W. 5th Street, Winston-Salem, NC.

Discussion topics will include updates regarding the North Carolina Governor’s Gang Task Force and will discuss operational, investigative, intelligence-sharing, and prosecutorial challenges, along with the potential impact of proposed legislation (Jaleeya’s Law) and resources needed for successful implementation. Topics will include intelligence capabilities, analytical support, technology, training, information-sharing systems, and strategies to improve coordination across local, state, and federal partners.

The goal of this discussion is to provide policymakers and criminal justice leaders with real-world perspectives, identify remaining gaps, and strengthen North Carolina’s ability to prevent and disrupt violent and organized crime.

Your agency’s leadership, experience, and perspective are critical to this statewide effort. We encourage you to attend and designate appropriate personnel who can contribute to these important conversations.
